 By RFI:Twenty-five gang members have been killed in a clash with the army at a ranch near Mexico’s northern city of Monterrey.Two soldiers were wounded and three people the gang had kidnapped were set free in the action near Ciudad Mier, on the US border, said the regional military command.Officials say the clash happened Thursday as soldiers were on patrol in the town of General Trevino, in Nuevo Leon state, which has seen an increase in drug-related violence.

Hong Kong police are also studying bullets over suspicions the tourists may have been killed by the police during the operation.Phillipine President Benigno Aquino formed a cabinet-level committee to look into possible compensation for the victims.Budget Secretary Florencio Abad, a member of the committee, expressed sympathy to the victims but would not be drawn on an amount nor a timetable for any possible compensation.
