Between Africa and the international community their's a running battle going on because of the conflict in Sudan. For the first time the International Criminal Court charge a serving president , El Bechir of Sudan.The African Union which disliked this decision continue to welcome the Sudanese president with all the regards (very recently in Chad and Kenya). African are displeased about the fact that the only  target of this institution are the leaders of the continent .

DailyNation on the Web-Nairobi — Some 396 victims of the 2007 election violence have formally given information to The Hague.The International Criminal Court (ICC) also revealed that it is protecting an unspecified number of witnesses.Not all witnesses will testify against the perpetrators of the chaos, the registrar of the court, Ms Silvana Arbia, said."We are already protecting witnesses and we will never ask a witness to testify if this puts them at risk," said Ms Arbia.

IRIN-analysis:Abidjan — Continued election delays and political turmoil have for years been used as excuses to justify poor governance and the lack of investment in public services, say civil society groups and public sector workers.Presidential elections are scheduled for 31 October, according to the latest announcement, but this follows six aborted elections over the past five years."The current political crisis is often used to justify a lack of investment in public services," Traoré Drissa, an Abidjan-based human rights lawyer and head of the Ivoirian Movement for Human Rights, told IRIN.

US Defense Secretary Visits Afghan Taliban Birthplace

VOA News-U.S. Defense Secretary Robert Gates on Friday visited U.S. troops in the southern Afghan province of Kandahar, the spiritual homeland of the Taliban and the center of the latest U.S. efforts to oust Islamic militants.Gates met with about 100 soldiers at a U.S. military base near Kandahar City, saying their success in the area will make a difference to NATO's campaign to secure the region.  He offered condolences to the troops for the recent loss of eight comrades in insurgent attacks and warned there will be more tough days ahead.

VOA News-The front-runner in Guinea's presidential runoff says some local officials are unfairly campaigning for his rival ahead of this month's vote.Cellou Diallo won more than 40 percent of ballots in Guinea's first round of presidential voting. So he is considered the front-runner in this month's runoff, especially as he has expanded his political coalition to include former rivals.But in campaigning for the September 19 election, Diallo says some local government officials are unfairly favoring his opponent, Alpha Conde, who won just over one-quarter of the first-round votes.

On Wednesday, two Israelis were wounded in a shooting as their car came under fire near the city of Ramallah.On Thursday, US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is hosting directs talks between Palestinian and Israeli leaders on major sticking points of negotiations such as the status of Jerusalem, security, the borders of a Palestinian state and the right of return for Palestinian refugees.The negotiations come a day after a meeting with the US president and a joint press conference meant to build trust between Israeli and Palestinian leaders, the White House says.

Obama ends 'combat mission' in Iraq

Aljazeera-Barack Obama, the US president, has declared an end to the US war in Iraq and told Americans that restoring the country's sagging economy was now "our central mission as a people".Obama, who inherited the war from his predecessor George Bush and is fighting another in Afghanistan, said he had fulfilled a 2008 campaign promise to end US combat operations in Iraq.He said it was now "time to turn the page" after seven years of bloodshed, sacrifices on both sides and vast resources from tight budgets.

They are part of the international effort to restrain the North's illegal nuclear weapons development and other illicit activities.South Korea's Foreign Ministry says the new sanctions are a positive move, demonstrating the consequences for Pyongyang's bad behavior.The new sanctions, imposed Monday, target several North Korean companies and government agencies, and four individuals. They are accused of being involved in illicit activities, including acquiring nuclear weapons technology.

Mr. Obama's speech from the Oval Office comes after a visit with U.S. troops at Ft. Bliss, Texas and private visits at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington with soldiers wounded in Iraq and Afghanistan.The president is expected to explain to Americans what the U.S. has accomplished in Iraq since 2003, underscore a continuing commitment to Iraq's stability, and pay tribute to the sacrifices by American military personnel.

Morocco: 11 Spanish demonstrators arrested

AfricaNews-Moroccan police have arrested 11 Spanish activists in Aaiun at the Western Sahara who were wielding flags for independence for the disputed territory, the Spanish Foreign Ministry has said.The 11 activists were the only demonstrators when they were arrested in Aaiun.Narrating their ordeal to Spanish national radio, one of the activists from Saharacciones, Alexis Dorta said they suffered physical abuse at the hands of Moroccan authorities and published pictures of bruised skin and black eyes on a website in favour of an independent Western Sahara.
