Arrest in Pakistan 'betting scam': Reports say members of cricket team were involved in cheating during UK Test match.

Aljazeera-British police say they have arrested a man on suspicion of conspiracy to defraud bookmakers following reports of match-fixing in a cricket match between England and Pakistan.Police questioned members of the Pakistani team late on Saturday over allegations by the News of the World newspaper that some members of the team were involved in cheating in the fourth and final test at Lord's before the final day on Sunday.

Ghana's World Cup defender Hans Sarpei has contracted a two-year deal with last season's Bundesliga runners-up Schalke 04. Schalke coach Felix Magath made public the information Thursday."We noticed in the last two games against Aalen (German Cup) and Hamburg (Bundesliga) that we have young talent on the sides, but they are not yet ready," said Magath."After the departure of Rafinha, we had to find a player capable of filling the left side or right side of defense," the trainer added.

Clemente confirmed new Cameroon coach

Eto'o: Song deserved solemn retirement

AfricaNews-Indomitable Lions captain, Samuel Fils Eto'o has described former captain's retirement from international football as not befitting, considering his contribution to the team. Adebayor sues journalist for defamation

AfricaNews-Togolese international and Manchester City star Emmanuel Adebayor has issued a writ against a journalist for alleged defamation.The striker's lawyers have taken action against Prosper Komi Agboklou, a Togolese, otherwise known as 'Prosper the German', for an allegation made on a private television channel.According to Goal.com, the reporter claimed that Adebayor had organized a party in a Lome nightclub ahead of Togo's African Cup of Nations qualifier against Chad on July 1.

AfricaNews-Cameroon and Inter Milan striker, Samuel Eto'o, is expected to adopt an unidentified animal in Zeitz Foundation’s Segera Ranch in Kenya as he pays a private visit to the country.Last year during a similar event, Jamaican world and Olympic sprints champion Usain Bolt and former world hurdles’ record holder, Britain’s Colin Jackson were in Kenya in October in the company of Zeitz to launch the foundation. Usain Bolt adopted the world’s fastest animal during his visit.

Ribery and Benzema questioned by police in under-age sex investigation

By RFI:French footballers Franck Ribery and Karim Benzema were questioned by police on Tuesday as part of an investigation into allegations that they slept with an underage prostitute. They were detained at the request of an investigating magistrate and spent time at the headquarters of the Paris vice squad.Ribery, who plays for Bayern Munich, and Benzema, a Real Madrid striker, could face a maximum prison sentence of three years and a fine of 45,000 euros, if they are charged and convicted of soliciting and paying for sex with a minor.

South Africa: Sars Taxes Earnings of World Cup Soccer Stars

BUSINESSDAY-Johannesburg — MEASURES have been put in place to ensure that foreign soccer stars who played in the Soccer World Cup will be taxed on their South African earnings, say tax analysts.This gives the South African Revenue Service (SARS), already one of the world's most efficient revenue services, a large cash pile to rifle through. SARS "recognises the challenge of collecting the tax on these earnings given the short period over which players will be present in SA," Di Seccombe, a senior tax specialist at audit, tax and advisory company Mazars, said at the weekend.
